Words of Wisdom
From the Fans
...But conviction comes
easy for Kim, as evidenced by her other creative endeavor,
her fanzine, Pink. Pink is an incendiary document of Kim's fiercely
defended belief
system, her views on everything from phony rock and roll to abortion.
Her take on the latter topic, in fact, caused one lefty punk to
write that
"Pink single-handedly set back the feminist movement 20 years",
much to Kim's amusement. "Pink is just as controversial as
Dollhouse Salon is,"
Kim says of her fanzine, and it's true. Every issue is packed
with her
heat-seeking philosophies, many of which have sparked heated debate
amongst
her readers. "I have a lot to say about things, like the
government, Aids,
or whatever, and people say they're offended by it, but they're
still reading it,
so they must be enjoying it, or at least they think I'm telling
the truth."
Pink's controversy, she says, is all part of the plan. "I
write about a lot of
racy stuff. It seems to be my mission to either turn people on
or piss people off,
and so far I've been pretty good at it."
-Ken "Sleazegrinder"
McIntyre, NY WASTE December 2001
"This is kind
of an odd mix of things based in and around the NYC scene.
Each issue has information on animal rights, and a spotlight on
"freaks"
- like abnormal growth on the body, cooking with marijuana (pot
brownies, and a beverage).
Each issue also has a bunch of photos/clippings of random porn
- but the tasteful sort
- either retro or Japanese comics. (Not really sure how this fits
in). And each issue has a band feature
- issue #1 is Disassociate and #2 has a real good interview with
Dave from MDC
and a brief one about what happened to Distraught. You should
be able to get
a copy of this from Ralphy and Devastating Soundworks."
- Chris, Slug &
Lettuce, 15 Year Anniversary Issue
"I was just cleaning
my room (a never ending job) and I came across your zine,
issue #2 that I think a friend gave me a couple of weeks ago,
I'm pretty sure
he got it from Soapbox Records. So of course I stopped cleaning
and started
reading, ha ha, and I like it alot. You did a really good job
with it. Who
did the piece on "Fashion Victims"? That was the first
thing I read and I
thought to myself, If I were to put out a zine, I'd want to put
that exact
piece in it (with proper credit given, of course). More people
should read
that. The MDC interview was good too. Anyway, I hope you keep
it going, let
me know when your next issue is due out." Thanks. -
Terry, PINK fan from USA
"Hey, I thought
that your zeen was rad! Pink zeen issue 2 was all that. I loved
that
you are getting accross to the youth that killing is wrong. My
girlfriend is a
vegan and every time now that she brought to my attention that
fur coats are
evil, after seeing that animal in a cage I wanted to cry. "

"Pink, My name
is Victor Thorn, and I am the founder of Babel Magazine.
I was recently in NYC and found a copy of your 'zine at See Hear.
I liked
what I saw, and would love for any of your writers to send some
material our
way." - Victor Thorn,
Babel Magazine
The PINK zines made
some of my frequent train rides into the city
a lot less boring. I had to chuckle when you used the IT'S BAD
FOR
YOUR HEALTH argument in the MEAT IS MURDER article. Sure, it is
not healthy, but neither is drinking beer, or listening to loud
music.
And you don't want to persuade people to stop these habits, too,
or do you? But a lot of your other views, on topics such as fur,
feminism, and welfare are surprisingly close to mine.
